Unibroue Garners Six Medals And Wins "Brewery of The Year" Title At The Canadian Brewing Awards
CHAMBLY, July 30th, 2003 - After collecting prestigious awards in European and American competitions, Unibroue has received the highly coveted title of "Brewery of the Year" at the first Canadian Brewing Awards. The prestigious Wine Access Magazine hosted this annual event held in Toronto. Together with a vigorous increase in sales, this honour represents a sweet victory for the Quebec microbrewer.
Undeniably the big winner, Unibroue garnered 6 medals.
La Trois Pistoles received a gold medal and collected the highest overall score of all entries with 45 points out of a maximum of 50.
La Blanche de Chambly was awarded a gold medal in the wheat beer category as well as an impressive overall score of 40 points.
Unibroue's Apple Ephemere received gold in the flavoured beer category; a silver medal was awarded to La Terrible and a bronze for both La Maudite and La Fin du Monde.
Another feather in the cap of Unibroue, "RateBeer Best, Summer 2003" awarded the title of "Best Canadian Brewery" to the Quebec microbrewer. "RateBeer Best" is the world's largest beer competition - 188,000 avid beer amateurs tested 22,000 beers coming from over 3,400 breweries in 120 different countries. Unibroue was also ranked 16th in the "World's Best Brewers" category - noteworthy result, given that Unibroue was the only Canadian brewery to make the top 20 list.
Strong financial performance
"The robust growth of our sales in the rest of Canada and in the United States is another gratifying element which reflects the appreciation of our beers by consumers and their increased loyalty to our brands," explains Mr. André Dion, President and CEO of Unibroue. "Our June 30 2003 results echo the satisfaction of our American clientele with an impressive 36% increase in volume. For the rest of Canada, sales also grew appreciably with a 21% progression."
"We are extremely proud of the Unibroue team and of our brew masters who are delivering quality products that are entirely natural, contain no chemical additives or preservatives and have a refined taste and rich flavour," concludes Mr. Dion.
